Yourletter,mydearfriend,ofthe18thultimo,comesliketherefreshingdewsoftheeveningonathirstysoil。Itrecallsantientaswellasrecentrecollections,verydeartomyheart。Forfiveandthirtyyearswehavewalkedtogetherthroughalandoftribulations。

Yetthesehavepassedaway,andso,Itrust,willthoseofthepresentday。Thetoryismwithwhichwestruggledin’77,differedbutinnamefromthefederalismof’99,withwhichwestruggledalso;
