wasstudyingwasbynomeansadifficultone,andinlessthanamonthIdeemedmyselfabletoreadthebook。
Anon,Itookthebookfromthecloset,andproceededtomakemyselfmasterofitscontents;Ihadsomedifficulty,forthelanguageofthebook,thoughinthemainthesameasthelanguageoftheBible,differedfromitinsomepoints,beingapparentlyamoreancientdialect;bydegrees,however,Iovercamethisdifficulty,andI
understoodthecontentsofthebook,andwelldidtheycorrespondwithallthoseideasinwhichIhadindulgedconnectedwiththeDanes。Forthebookwasabookofballads,aboutthedeedsofknightsandchampions,andmenofhugestature;balladswhichfromtimeimmemorialhadbeensungintheNorth,andwhichsometwocenturiesbeforethetimeofwhichIamspeakinghadbeencollectedbyoneAndersVedel,wholivedwithacertainTychoBrahe,andassistedhiminmakingobservationsupontheheavenlybodies,ataplacecalledUraniasCastle,onthelittleislandofHveen,intheCattegat。
