In1843myfathermovedtoAlbany,toestablishmybrothers-in-law,Mr。WilkesonandMr。McMartin,inthelegalprofession。ThatmadeAlbanythefamilyrallyingpointforafewyears。ThisenabledmetospendseveralwintersattheCapitalandtotakeanactivepartinthediscussionoftheMarriedWoman\'sPropertyBill,thenpendinginthelegislature。WilliamH。Seward,GovernoroftheStatefrom1839to1843,recommendedtheBill,andhiswife,awomanofrareintelligence,advocateditinsociety。Togetherwehadtheopportunityoftalkingwithmanymembers,bothoftheSenateandtheAssembly,insocialcircles,aswellasintheircommitteerooms。
